A heart-wrenching moment unfolded on stage at the GOP convention in Dallas, Texas, as the grieving family of Sheridan Gorman delivered a powerful address to the nation. Flanked by Rep. Mike Lawler, Sheridan’s father held back tears as he confronted the tragic loss of his 18-year-old daughter—a stark reminder of the human cost linked to border enforcement policies.

Sheridan Gorman, a freshman at Loyola University Chicago, was tragically shot and killed on March 19, 2026, while walking with friends along a lakefront pier. The suspect charged in her murder, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, had been previously apprehended and released despite prior charges and active detainers. Taking the stage alongside political leaders, the Gorman family addressed lawmakers and voters directly to highlight public safety concerns.

Standing at the podium, Sheridan's father painfully recalled holding his daughter’s lifeless hand at the medical examiner's office in Chicago. He expressed deep sorrow over being unable to protect her from a criminal who should never have been in the country. Emphasizing that sanctuary policies contributed to this loss, he urged Americans to demand leaders who prioritize border security to prevent similar tragedies.

The speech brought emotional reactions from the convention audience, where many attendees were moved to tears. Clips of the testimony quickly spread across news outlets and social platforms, drawing widespread praise from viewers who commended the family for their bravery in sharing their story.

This moving tribute highlights the ongoing national debate surrounding border security, sanctuary cities, and law enforcement accountability. The Gorman family’s courage brings an irreplaceable human element to policy discussions, reinforcing the call for strong national borders to protect American communities.
